Hello and thank you for being here! My name is Jhonvieve and I am the founder of PeriMpowered. I am a 46-yr-old woman, mom, and wife navigating the choppy waters of perimenopause…coupled with an autoimmune disease.
As a lifelong learner, I’m here to challenge myself and encourage women to embrace and celebrate perimenopause through play. With a background in Early Childhood Education and a strong advocate of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, play is paramount to childhood development. Essential to social and emotional progress. Vital to a well-rounded, joyful childhood experience.
According to Scholarpedia, “play is activity that is (1) self-chosen and self-directed; (2) intrinsically motivated; (3) guided by mental rules; (4) imaginative; and (5) conducted in an active, alert, but relatively non-stressed frame of mind.”
“Play, first and foremost, is what one wants to do, as opposed to what one feels obliged to do.”
As adults, particularly women, we often let go of our wants, needs, and desires. We ignore our urge to play and many have forgotten how to play altogether. Our inner child lost.
If it’s been studied and statistically proven that play is the most beneficial way for children to learn, progress, and thrive, why would it be any different for women??? Especially during such a messy (no pun intended) chapter in our lives!?!?!?
We may not be in control of our biological shift into perimenopause but we certainly can control how we react, respond, and manage these experiences.
It’s 100% OUR choice. OUR way.
Let’s remember our childhood passions, creativities, and joys. And bring them back into our lives.
Let’s find the positivity and humor in this unpredictable stage of life and celebrate it.
We deserve to have fun!
Let’s play!
